My name is Sarah Bennett. Like many people, I found my way to this important group through tragedy. In 2016 we lost our nephew Jackson in a drowning accident. Before that day, I had never heard of childhood drowning as a leading cause of death in children under 5. I had no understanding of how often these accidents actually happen, and how little information is provided to parents and caretakers to help them create safety barriers.

I am really passionate about how powerful education is as a prevention tool to save children’s lives, and want to be an ambassador for change in honor of our beautiful nephew Jackson.

Our son, Yori, was 3 years old when he slipped underwater unnoticed in our friend's backyard pool. In the blink of an eye, quickly and quietly...our lives changed forever. Though first responders were able to resuscitate Yori and get him to the hospital, he was pronounced brain dead on September 1st, 2018. This tragedy has profoundly impacted us, our three other children, and our local community. We're doing work around drowning prevention as well as protocol change around how to treat those with a severe loss of oxygen. We are grateful that this organization is amplifying voices of parents impacted by drowning and passionate about saving lives. You can find out more about Yori's continued story here.
