Parents Preventing Childhood Drowning Presents: Sunday Survival Stories: Security Camera

Every Sunday, we will share a story of a non-fatal drowning, discuss where things went wrong, and give some pointers on how to prevent it from happening to the people you love. Thankfully, these stories have happy endings for those involved, but sadly, we lose too many people to drowning every year. We hope examining these real-life stories help put the dangers of water into perspective and help you introduce various principles of water safety to your family!

Today’s story features 4yr old Mason who saved his little 2yr old brother Nicholas when he saw him drowning in the backyard pool on the home’s security camera.

While an adult should always be present for swimming, having a home security camera trained on the pool is a great idea for examples like this when an unintentional pool entry occurs. This is a great layer of protection to add to help prevent drowning. And don’t forget other important layers of protection, like having a fence around the pool and not having easy access to the outdoors such as a doggy door.

We’re so happy this story has a happy ending! Way to go Mason!

Implement multiple layers of protection in your home to prevent drowning. Have fun, be safe, and use your security camera to prevent unintentional drowning!
